Open Spaces Multimedia Workshop with Anne Gatschet and Jahaira Aguilar

Southeast Community Center

Explore the Artwork and Make Your Own.

Tree, Broken Tree is the title of Dylan Mortimer's Open Spaces artwork that transforms an actual Swope Park tree. The images above are recent drawings by the artist, whose work will be at the center of this discussion and hands-on creative session.

After an image-based, visual thinking activity with Mr Mortimer's work, we will walk from the Swope Community Center to a local tree, one that has reached the end of its life and which the park has slated to be cut down. Dylan Mortimer has given the tree new life by coating it in glittering resin. This installation will serve as the springboard for an exploration of artistic form and symbol. Artists, writers, and curious artlovers of all kinds are welcome to join local wordsmith, Anne Gatschet, and visual artist, Jahaira Aguilar as we explore how art can use symbols in words and visual forms. In the workshop, you'll engage in visual thinking activities, discussion, and the creation of a small, mixed media collage.

We will meet at the entrance to the Community Center. Please arrive on time. If you arrive late, workshop room details will be posted on or near the entrance.
