Youngbird
Kansas City, MO
Youngbird was born in rural Arkansas, raised in the Ozarks, and currently lives and works in Kansas City, MO. Her work centers around nature, the home and visual storytelling. Within her practice, she becomes a hunter-gatherer of discarded or overlooked materials to build sculptures and installations that meld traditional and modern methods of creating, as in her 2015 outdoor installation, Snake Loose, in Loose Park. Youngbird investigates personal history and our destructive impact as a species on the natural world, both of which are evoked in her Swope Park installation, For the Birds aka Swope Shelter.
