Dreams of Flight

Randy
Regier

Wichita, KS

A KC-based artist who explores how the fantasies of childhood dovetail with the anxieties of adulthood, Randy Regier is fascinated by the design of toys made and sold during the Cold War period. To maximize the impact of his works, Regier develops elaborate fictions intended to disguise their artistry, so that they come across to the viewer as artifacts retrieved from a historical past. Regier’s Open Spaces project gradually reveals itself at the National Toy and Miniature Museum, KCAI Crossroads Gallery, and River Market Antiques.

Dreams of Flight

Medium: Found Objects

Like a story told by three different narrators, this project gradually reveals itself at three separate destinations: the National Toy and Miniature Museum, KCAI Crossroads Gallery, and River Market Antiques. It would be spoiling the experience to reveal too much at any single location, but one site explains the object, another site shows where the object comes from, and the third site is devoted to the object itself. Regier is a Kansas City-based artist who explores how the fantasy-laced memories of childhood dovetail with the anxieties of adulthood. Randy Regier is fascinated by the design of toys made and sold during the Cold War period. To maximize the impact of his works, Regier also develops elaborate fictions intended to disguise their artistry, so that they appear to the viewer as artifacts that have been carefully retrieved from a historical past.
