Open Spaces

aug 25–oct 28

Throughout its ten-week season, Open Spaces presents a series of evening performances at selected venues all over Kansas City, introducing some of the most groundbreaking artists working today to local audiences. From chamber music visionaries Bang on a Can All-Stars, ETHEL and Eighth Blackbird to the theatrical illusions of Chicago’s Manual Cinema and the evocative story of Billy Strayhorn’s life as told by David Rousséve/REALITY, Kansas City has never experienced such a rich offering of music, dance and theater created in, for and about the present moment.

And if that’s not enough, partners across the city have come together to lend their creative energies to The Expanded Field. Explore the contemporary art exhibitions, galleries, and public artworks listed here and throughout the schedule (on the homepage of this site) that celebrate the spirit of Open Spaces. These projects are independent of Open Spaces. Please check the organization’s website or call to confirm dates before making the trip to visit one of these institutions.
