Ward
New York, NY
For 25 years, Jamaican-born, New York-based sculptor Nari Ward has repurposed objects such as baby strollers, shopping carts, bottles, doors, television sets, cash registers and shoelaces, re-contextualizing them as part of thought-provoking installations that develop complex, metaphorical meanings that in turn confront social and political issues surrounding race, poverty and consumer culture. For Open Spaces, Nari Ward has developed a site-specific installation about jazz and historical memory for the historic Mutual Musicians’ Foundation.
